In Ms. Just's Friday flame-a-gram to me, she made reference to my
"secret stalkers-in-training" mailing list. I confess, I do run a very
small, by invitation only mailing list and because Ms. Just threatened
me with her lawyers if I posted her flame-a-gram to that list, the
possibility occurred to me that one of the list members had agreed to
inform Ms. Just if and when anything nefarious occurred. Not that this
particularly bothered me as nothing has ever been said there that I,
or I'm sure any other list member would be uncomfortable about having
made public. I did however, mention this possibility to the list, as I
felt it was only fair that they knew with what brush Ms. Just was
attempting to tar them. I also told them that if any of them wanted to
unsubscribe at that point, because they did not wish to be associated
with me, or to take the risk of Ms. Just maligning them to Mira (as
she has threatened to do with me) because of their participation on
the list, that I would understand if they wished to do so.
Interestingly no one unsubscribed for that reason (I did lose one list
member that weekend, because of other events in her life at this
moment, and I hope she will be back sometime in the future).
It is not "secret", so much as it is private, as it was never designed
to be a list for the masses. There are some of us, who, because of our
interest in Mira have developed avid interests in other things which
are related to Mira and her life, including, but not limited to,
Balkan history, Yugoslavian politics, current affairs in the countries
that came out of the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, Croatian
language studies, involvement with B.a.B.e., and Eastern European
cinema and theatre. Most of us have been corresponding privately by
e-mail for some considerable length of time. The list was simply
designed to give us a more cohesive forum than trading messages
between multiple parties.
It's nice to have a few people around to correspond with, with whom
one does not have to explain in detail why one is concerned that the
current crisis in Kosova, might lead to the re-eruption of hostilities
in Bosnia, or precipitate the outbreak of fighting in Macedonia and
Albania. People who understand the gore and dole joke. Videophiles who
can discuss Kusterica, Grlic and Menzel. Not to say that Mira and
"Delenn" and the events in both of those ladies lives are not topics
of discussion, they are, but there are other things going on with the
list, that only peripherally pertain to Mira.
Admittedly a fairly large percentage of us have had the pleasure of
meeting Mira (some on more than one occasion), however, if turning up
at a science fiction convention from time to time constitutes
stalking....
I never intended to go public with this, because as I said, this list
isn't designed for your average Mira/"Delenn" fan, but I don't want to
get accused of conspiring behind Mira's back, because that certainly
isn't my intention, nor is it the purpose of the list. I have nothing
to hide, nor anything to be ashamed of. So, if there is anyone out
there reading this who is interested in getting involved with the
list, (at risk to your reputation, of course) please feel free to
contact me and let me know why you would be interested. Warning, you
may end up understanding a smattering of Croatian and knowing more
about current affairs in the Balkans and Eastern European Cinema than
you ever wanted to.
If Mira has a problem with the existence of this list, and the fact
that a small group of her fans like each other and enjoy exchanging
ideas, then she is more than welcome to ask her Fan Club President to
contact me with a request that I disband it. When, and if that
happens, the list will be immediately cease to exist.
