And Baby Makes Three
Mira and Goran's first child, Marko
Lav Gajic, arrived on the morning of the 15th of December
1998.
When I saw Mira at VOR in October of 1998 I couldn't help but
think that I'd never seen her look more beautiful. She was the
picture of a woman who was all filled up with love, and that
love was spilling out on to everyone she came in contact with.
Radiant does not begin to describe the way she looked when she
was pregnant.
Motherhood definitely suits Mira. She shines like a beacon
when she talks about her young son, and her voice goes up a
full octave. She's in love. Goran is every bit the proud papa
and from what I've seen of him and Marko together, a very loving
and gentle father.
Marko is exceedingly cute. A very beautiful baby with lots
of dark hair, and the most amazingly beautiful pale blue eyes.
At six and a half months (which is when I last saw him) he's
starting to lose that generic baby look and really beginning
to come into his own. I thinks he's going to be a rather handsome
young man. According to Mira, he travels well, which is a good
thing as he's already done a lot of it in his young life (Denver,
Cincinnati, Atlanta, London, England and an extended stay in
New York). He seems to be an amazingly calm and self possessed
little boy, not at all freaked out by the clamour and the noise
and the goings on on a convention floor.
Mira has not ruled out the possibility of having other children.
She's said at a couple of conventions that since she was an
only child she'd like it if Marko were not. If she really wants
more, I hope it happens for her - she and Goran make beautiful
babies.

Are they or aren't they?
Sometime in the summer of 1997 I was told by someone who has
contact with the Gajic's that she didn't think Mira and Goran
were "really" married. The reasons she gave were the fact the
Mira does not wear a wedding ring and that they celebrate the
date that they met as their anniversary. This little tidbit
of information has drifted back to me from others, who I can
only assume got it from the same source as I did.
Since I have subsequently come to the conclusion that Goran
and Mira are in fact legally married, I'd like to do my bit
to dispel what I feel is a piece of erroneous speculation. I
have never seen Mira wear a wedding ring either, but then again
I have never seen her wear any sort of jewelry at all, so the
lack of that one particular adornment is in my mind no sort
of evidence at all. I cannot comment on the date of their meeting
or if it is indeed the date that they celebrate as their anniversary
as I have no independent confirmation of that. I have, however,
read accounts of an alleged controversy that occurred in the
media in Yugoslavia at the time of their marriage, a controversy
that I think would not have happened had they simply been living
together.
The most compelling piece of evidence for me as to the legality
of their marriage come from Mira's own words during a talk she
gave in Columbus, Ohio in July of 1998. She was asked if she
was disappointed that jms had chosen not to show "John" and
"Delenn's" wedding on Babylon 5 and she gave the following reply.
"You know who was really disappointed? The wardrobe people.
They were in tears 'cause they wanted to make me a nice dress.
And it would be nice, I would have liked it, at least on TV,
'cause in life I didn't opt for a wedding like that, which I
sometimes regret. It was very low key, totally low key, no dresses
nothing, so I thought maybe now I can experience that, a really
great dress. And they wanted to do it, but it didn't happen."
